Creation Care

Creation Care

At Horsford Church of England VA Primary School, our Christian vision shapes how we understand our relationship with the world around us. We believe the Earth is God’s gift, and we are called to act as thoughtful stewards. Guided by our school values of courage, responsibility and compassion, we encourage our pupils to recognise their role in caring for the world and for one another, now and in the future.

Over the past year, we have taken courageous and practical steps to strengthen our sustainability journey. By joining the Let’s Go Zero campaign, we have measured our carbon footprint across both school sites and developed a clear Climate Action Plan to guide future action. This work has required honest reflection and a willingness to change, helping us take responsibility for our impact and identify meaningful ways to reduce emissions through improved energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable travel and more responsible procurement.

These values are lived out in the daily life of our school. Our pupils show responsibility through their leadership roles as Eco Team members and Junior Travel Ambassadors, and through curriculum learning that encourages curiosity, critical thinking and informed action. Compassion is fostered through practical initiatives such as improved recycling systems, food waste separation, switch-off campaigns and the promotion of reusable water bottles, helping our children understand how caring for the environment is also an act of care for people and communities worldwide.

Learning beyond the classroom plays an important role. Outdoor education, gardening and opportunities to enhance biodiversity encourage our pupils to act with courage as they explore, protect and value the natural world. These experiences support their spiritual development, inviting moments of wonder, reflection and gratitude.

As a Church school, we seek to align faith with action. By living out courage, responsibility and compassion in tangible ways, Horsford CofE VA Primary School is committed to caring wisely for the world we share, equipping our children to become hopeful, thoughtful guardians of God’s creation - now and for generations to come.

Our sustainability commitment:

As a school we have joined the Let's Go Zero campaign in October 2024. This means our school has confirmed that we are taking action now to reduce our own carbon impact, and that we demand the UK Government helps all schools reach this goal by the end of the decade.
